First Stream Explorer Wrap Up

On Saturday, February 4th we held our first Saturday Stream Explorers Event at St. John Paul II Church in Lakeview. We had a great turnout of both families and adults who wanted to learn more about fly fishing, fly tying and how Trout Unlimited works to protect our local fresh waters and stream habitat. Member and pro fly tyer Nate Pogorzala led a very informative presentation on fly tying materials and instructed anyone interested (pretty much everyone) on tying a basic fly. Outreach chair Jim Jowsey did a short presentation on some of the basics of fly fishing, he talked about the principles of Keep Fish Wet for catch and release fishing and answered some basic questions. Thanks to Board President Joe Morgan and Board VP Ken Kinecki for coming down and sharing some of their vast knowledge.

Even though it  was quite cold we had some die-hards outside for a few doing some casting practice.

This series continues on the first Saturday of each month from 9am-11am. Our physical location is 2052 Lakeview Rd. in Hamburg, the youth hall at St. John Paul II Church. Check our social media and calendar here on the website for updates regarding location changes. As the weather continues to change we'll likely spend more time on the water. For March we'll be doing some more fly tying and a casting clinic featuring some of our very knowledgeable members.

Thanks to our state council and TU National for offering up a FREE youth membership to every kid who attends!

Registration/Reservations aren't necessary at this point but you could drop us a line to outreach@wnytroutunlimited.org to let us know you're coming.
