Stream Explorer Update: June 2024
This past Saturday we had a Stream Explorer Outing at Sprague Brook Park in Glenwood near Kissing Bridge. Our anglers and mentors were tearing up the pond, catching mostly blue gills and a brown trout or two. Good times, we even had a couple a couple of grown ups who wanted to practice and give it a try. ALL are welcome.
We're also very proud that two of our Stream Explorers, Bailey Burke and Kyle Bennet applied to attend the State Youth Trout Camp later this month on the Delaware and were both chosen to attend. They've got a great week ahead of them of fishing, tying, conservation and outdoor fun in one of the best trout fisheries in the country. Our own Ken Kinecki will be joining them midweek as a mentor and instructor. Congrats Bailey and Kyle, can't wait to hear all about it!
We've booked our Stream Explorers Holiday get together. We'll be getting together on Saturday, December 7th at the Orvis location in the Eastern Hills Mall on Transit Rd. in Clarence. We'll have some fly fishing films, fly tying, prizes, food, awards and more. Let's shoot for 3pm. We'll remind you.
We're always looking for gear for the kids, whether it's rods, reels, nippers, hemos, flies, fly boxes, etc... It all helps out. A HUGE thanks to member Joe Giroux who recently donated a couple big boxes of fly boxes, reels and other gear. It's much appreciated and will definitely get into the hands of young anglers who will use it.
Our next outing will be Saturday, August 10th down at Hobuck Flats on 18 Mile Creek. Leave the rods at home for this one but bring your waders and boots because we'll be doing a Macroinvertebrate Study with Kyle Glenn. Read that getting wet and catching bugs to help determine how healthy our creek is. We had a blast last year and we're looking forward to it again. 9am at Hobuck Flats, 6863 Versailles Plank Rd in Derby. See you there!
