April 2025 President's Report
Greetings. Hope this finds you well.
Thanks to all who came out on March 18 to our 3rd annual film festival at the Ridge in West Seneca. It was a great event. Special thanks to Jim Jowsey and Nick Sagnibene for coordinating the event and all our sponsors that donated time and prizes. It is this type of event and our raffles that help support all the stream projects and programs WNYTU provides. Your participation and donations go a long way and are much appreciated.
Speaking of raffles one of our Board members Chuck Campbell graciously constructed and donated a custom Bamboo fly rod as a fundraiser for WNYTU. It’s a beautiful 6’9” 4 wt. rod with a spare tip that is aptly named “The Blue Liner”. Tickets are $10 a piece, 3 for $25 and the rod will be raffled off live on the chapter YouTube channel on 7/1/2025. Tickets will be available at all our events and shows throughout the Spring.
On April 22,2025 at 6:30 PM Ken Kinecki and his Project Healing Water volunteers will be meeting again at the Buffalo VA for an evening a fly tying and camaraderie with our local veterans. This program has such a profound and positive effect on the veterans. A note of appreciation was given to Ken and WNYTU by the recreational director of the hospital indicating how much the veterans enjoy and look forward to getting together each month. Please consider volunteering. It’s only a few hours of time each month and I know you will be very happy you did.
On April 26 Jim Jowsey and his Stream Explorers program will be getting together for a morning of fishing and stream clean up in honor of Earh Day at the Hobuck Flats DEC area on 18 Mile Creek in the Town of Evans. Come on down do some fishing and help clean up the creek.
Applications are now open for the New York Trout Unlimited State Council’s annual Trout Camp. If you know someone that maybe interested in attending, please go to this link to get more info and the application.
