May 2025 President's Report
Greetings.
This year is winding down. We have one more general meeting left this month and then we will take a break from meeting until September. However, there are several events scheduled throughout the summer months with many volunteer opportunities.
This year is winding down. We have one more general meeting left this month and then we will take a break from meeting until September. However, there are several events scheduled throughout the summer months with many volunteer opportunities.
On May 31 the Caledonia Trout Festival will be taking place.
On June 7 Project Healing Waters will be hosting a fishing outing at Oppenheim Park in North Tonawanda for the Buffalo VA veterans.
On August 7 there is a kids fishing education event sponsored by Taar Outdoors in LakeView we will be participating in.
On June 23 Stream Explorers will be meeting at Sprague Brook Park for a fishing outing.
The chapter will be doing stream restoration and helping NYDEC with electrofishing studies over the summer. More information on all our events can be found in the newsletter and on the WNYTU website under Events.
On May 20,2025 at 6:30 PM Ken Kinecki and his Project Healing Water volunteers will be meeting again at the Buffalo VA for an evening a fly tying and camaraderie with our local veterans.
If you are looking for WNYTU at the Erie County Fair this year you will not find us since we will not have a booth in the Conservation building. This ends a decade-long tradition. It is a 12-day commitment and sadly we have trouble finding enough volunteers every year to help. That’s unfortunate because it is one of our biggest fundraisers through donations for flies, shirts etc. It also allows us to showcase all the great programs and work we do along with spreading the TU conservation message to a large audience.
The chapter is also implementing a political awareness campaign to make our local elected officials know the importance of federal funding for all the great stream improvement and restoration projects Trout Unlimited does. In the next few weeks, you will get information on how you can help on the website and social media. Your voice is very important for elected representatives to hear.
Our guest speaker this month will be Chuck Sherry from Orvis talking about Western NY insect hatches and how to fish them. Chuck did this presentation earlier this year for the store and we are bringing a version of it back due to popular demand. It had great reviews. I hope you will join us.
Have a Safe and Happy Summer!
