June Trout Stream Sampling Details: June 24th and 25th

Below you will find our plan for trout stream sampling this later this month.

As you’ve probably noticed, we’ve had A LOT of rain in the last month, the ground is saturated, and streams have been running high. We will need at least normal late June flows in order to be effective at population sampling, so if you are planning to come out, watch the weather forecasts and please check your emails before you come in case we need to postpone any days. This month we will be evaluating habitat enhancement work done last year and doing a pre-work survey at a site where habitat enhancement will be done later this summer.

Sampling schedule

Tuesday June 24th – Wiscoy Creek: Meet at Albro Road at 9:45 AM. This is located just off NYS Rt 39, approximately two miles west of Pike. We will be doing a long sample site here, split into two sections, with a lunch break between them.

Wednesday June 25th – Wiscoy Creek: Meet at 9:30 AM at the picnic pavilion at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds, near the old Pike dam site. The entrance is off Rt 19 in Pike. We will be doing a site here, having a hot dog lunch, and then doing a site at Boy Scout camp Sam Wood downstream of Pike in the afternoon. If you are planning to join us for the hot dog lunch, please let me know ahead of time so I know how many dogs to bring! Thanks😊.

Thursday June 26th
This is a backup day in case we can’t sample Tuesday or Wednesday.
If you need better directions, or have other questions, please let me know.
