November 2025 President's Report
Hope this finds you well.
As many of you know the Orvis Store will be closing this December. It was an unexpected and sad announcement for both the store staff and WNYTU. On behalf of Western NY Trout Unlimited and myself I would like to thank Adam Schroeder, Adam Slavinski, Adam Cook and the rest of the store staff for being such good and gracious hosts over the years. The move to Orvis for our meetings helped invigorate and introduce new members to WNYTU. It is truly appreciated. Our last general meeting at the store will be on November 25. Please come out and join us for a farewell get together at 6:00 PM with pizza and refreshments. If you plan on attending, please email me at president@wnytroutunlimited.org
Our guest speakers that night will be Ryan Bennett talking about his 10-day Willard Fly Fishing Camp experience out west this past summer. John Sander will also be doing a presentation and live demo on his new internet website application that encompasses all things outdoors including fishing information, hiking, canoeing etc. It is quite impressive and the result of years long research and development.
I am also pleased to announce that we have a new venue for our general meetings. It will be at the Ridge Restaurant in West Seneca. It was chosen based on its available amenities and location after reviewing the demographics of where our chapter members reside based on zip code information received from TU National. Many of you are already aware of this venue as being the location where we hold our annual Film Festival. We also have moved the meeting time to 7:00 PM with fly tying and socializing beginning at 6:00 PM.
We are looking for donations of fishing equipment and tackle to donate to the students in our Trout in the Classroom program with 16 schools throughout Western New York participating. If you have any equipment laying around and would like to donate, please contact Dolores Sheehan at 716-866- 0593 or email her at sheehandh@yahoo.com to arrange pick up. Thank you in advance.
Our annual Christmas party will take place at Duff’s Orchard Park on December 13 from 1 to 4 PM. A $10 donation will get you lots of food and refreshments. Please RSVP to Ken Kinecki if you plan on attending via email kenkinecki@gmail.com
There will be no general meeting in December. Our next meeting will be on January 26, 2026, and our guest speakers will be from the NYDEC presenting the annual State of the Inland Streams address.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Holiday Season!
Joe Morgan
