GIVE THE FISH YOU LOVE THE GIFT OF ADVOCACY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

In all seriousness though: Our collective voices are needed on a couple of current issues.

Read what follows to learn more and click on the links at the bottom to get to the TU action items relating to these issues. The links have messages already crafted by TU. All you need to do is enter your info into the fields and the messages are sent to your elected officials. You can be done in less than three minutes. It’s that easy!

Administrative (EPA and Corps) proposal to weaken clean water protections: On November 17, 2025, the U.S. EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (“the agencies”) jointly announced a proposed rule to dramatically restrict which bodies of water are protected by the safeguards of the Clean Water Act. The new proposal would substantially weaken the Clean Water Act, one of the Nation’s most effective natural resource laws. Opportunity for public comment on this new proposal is now open. The comment period will close on Monday, January 5th at 11:59p Eastern.

With the House of Representatives passing HR 3898, the PERMIT Act, it will be even more important now to hold elected officials accountable for ensuring that the standards of the Clean Water Act (CWA) are maintained. The PERMIT Act stands to severely weaken core protections under the CWA and strip the EPA’s ability to block highly destructive projects like the proposed Pebble Mine. This mine, if constructed, would threaten Alaska’s Bristol Bay, the world’s most productive salmon fishery.

It’s easy to see how these two issue combine to increase the threat to clean water and healthy fisheries.

As we reflect on all we are grateful for this holiday season, please take a moment to help TU continue to fight for the health of our waterways.

Happy Holidays!
