President's Report: January 2026

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice holiday.

New Year – New Meeting place! Please remember starting this month our general meetings will be held at the Ridge Restaurant in West Seneca (585 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, NY 14224). The meeting and speaker presentation will be at 7 PM with socializing and fly-tying beginning at 6 PM. Food and drink are available so you can grab dinner, appetizers or a beverage if you are so inclined.

An update on Ischua Creek – The last official NYDEC press release (11/21/25) indicated the plant has shown improved compliance and lifted the recreational use advisory. NYDEC is in the process of developing a Natural Resource Damage Claim.

The Northeast Trout Unlimited Rendezvous is happening this April in Roscoe. It is a 3-day event from April 10th to the 12th with seminars, social events, a conservation project and some fishing thrown in on the rivers and creeks in the Birthplace of American Fly Fishing. TU is asking for participation from all chapters and members and to spread the message. Please go to 2026 Northeast Regional Rendezvous - Trout Unlimited for more information.

Applications are now being accepted for the TU Expedition camp in Wyoming happening this summer. If you know of a high school or college student that would be interested in attending, go to the link to find out more information. Trout Unlimited Expeditions -

Trout Unlimited Elections are occurring this March. The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and 3 BOD positions are on the slate. See more details on elections further down in the newsletter.

Long time board member Don Kwiatowski has decided not to run again for his expiring board term. Don has been a board member and involved with TU for over 45 years and will surely be missed. On behalf of WNYTU and myself I want to thank Don for all his dedication, hard work and contributions to WNYTU over the years.

I would also like to thank the folks at Orvis for allowing us to meet at the store for the last 6 years and their generous contributions to WNYTU. They were more than just gracious hosts but are true friends of our chapter. Thank you to Adam Schroeder, Adam Slavinski, Adam Cook and all the Orvis staff.

Many environmental laws and bills at the federal level such as the Clean Water Act are being redefined and challenged. Please go to the WNYTU website for more information and how you can get involved. TU has created a TU chapter advocacy committee chair and has asked chapters to get involved at the grassroots level.

We are always looking for volunteers for all our activities and initiatives with an immediate need for the upcoming Outdoor Shows. Please go here Our Projects and Initiatives for more information. Any amount of your time is greatly appreciated.

One of our members has reached out to offer a roll top desk to anyone that may be looking for a fly tying bench. It is free and just must be picked up. Please contact me at President@wnytroutunlimited.org if interested and I will put you in contact with the donor.

Our guest speakers this month will be Brad Britt and Scott Cornett from the NYDEC presenting on the annual State of the WNY Trout Streams. Please come and join us and bring a friend. It’s one of our most popular events with a lot of great information.

Take care,

Joe Morgan
