February 2026 President's Report

Please remember our general meetings are being held at the Ridge Restaurant in West Seneca (585 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, NY 14224). The meeting and speaker presentation will be at 7PM with socializing and fly-tying beginning at 6 PM. Food and drink are available so you can grab dinner, appetizers or a beverage if you are so inclined before or during the meeting. The restaurant opens at 4:00 PM and you can go directly in the Tap Wall Room where are meetings held and dine there also.

The Northeast Trout Unlimited Rendezvous is happening this April in Roscoe. It is a 3-day event from April 10 to the 12th with seminars, social events, a conservation project and some fishing thrown in on the rivers and creeks in the Birthplace of American Fly Fishing. Applications are now being accepted for the TU Expedition camp in Wyoming happening this summer. If you know of a high school or college student that would be interested in attending, go to the link to find out more information. Trout Unlimited Expeditions - Trout Unlimited

Elections are occurring this March. The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and 3 BOD positions are on the slate. See more details on elections further down in the newsletter.

Many environmental laws and bills at the federal level such as the Clean Water Act are being redefined and challenged. Please go to the WNYTU website for more information and how you can get involved. TU has created a TU chapter advocacy committee chair and has asked chapters to get involved at the grassroots level.

It’s Outdoor show season once again. We will be at the Greater Niagara Outdoor Fishing Expo at the Niagara Falls Convention Center being held February 19 -22. We will also be at the Western New York Sports and Travel Show at the Hamburg Fairgrounds March 6-8. Stop by and say hello.

The Seth Green Chapter is once again holding their Fly Fishers Workshop on Saturday March 7 in Rochester, NY. For more information go to their website https://SethgreenTU.org

We have a great Rod and Reel Combo that the chapter is raffling off just in time for the upcoming trout season. A 9’ 5 Wt. Orvis Helios with an Orvis CFO III reel. The package retails at $1300 and tickets are $20 with the winner being chosen on 4/1. Thanks to board member Chuck Sherry for his generosity in donating this outfit.

To help fund our programs and stream projects you can donate the redemption on your cans and bottles by dropping them off at the CBR Redemption Center at 4255 Clark Street in Hamburg. Just tell the cashier you want to donate the proceeds to Western New York Trout Unlimited, and they will handle the rest.

Our guest speaker this month will be Ralph Scherder from Dark Skies Flyfishing presenting on Fishing North Central Pennsylvania. Ralph is from Coudersport Pa. and is very familiar with great trout fishing in that area. Please come and join us and bring a friend.
