March 2026 President's Report

Spring is in the air – sometimes! Steelhead are running and trout fishing is ramping up. Hopefully you can get out there and catch a few.

Elections are occurring this March. The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and 3 Board of Director positions are on the slate. See more details on elections further down in the newsletter.

Thanks to all who volunteered and helped at the Niagara Fishing Expo and Western New York Outdoor Show. Special thanks to Brian Barrey for coordinating and running both shows.

We have a great Rod and Reel Combo that the chapter is raffling off just in time for the upcoming trout season. A 9’ 5 Wt. Orvis Helios with an Orvis CFO III reel. The package retails at $1300 and tickets are $20 with the winner being chosen at the March 31 general meeting. Thanks to board member Chuck Sherry for his generosity in donating this outfit.

Chuck Sherry has also donated a beautiful Dyna-King rotary vise for anyone to purchase with all the proceeds going to the chapter. A $400 donation is the asking price. The retail value is $700 so it is a great deal.

Our guest speaker this month will be TU Northeast Biologist Kyle Glenn speaking about all the great projects being done and planned in Western New York along with some interesting studies on beaver ponds. He will be also making a surprise announcement that evening that you won’t want to miss.

Finally, this is the last President’s Report I will be giving since I have reached the chapter term limits per our bylaws. I want to thank all our board members, officers and chapter members for all your help and support. WNYTU is one of the most active and vibrant chapters in Trout Unlimited thanks to all of you. It’s been an honor to be the president and represent the chapter.
