May 2026 Conservation Report

The Conservation Beer “River Bank Lager” is now available at all Wegman’s stores. Proceeds from the sales are going to be used to fund stream projects across Western New York.

On April 22 seven employees from National Fuel and myself performed a stream clean up on 18 Mile Creek at Hobuck Flats, Basswood Drive and the Evans Town Park along Old Lakeshore Road.

On April 25 100 trees were planted on Vandermark Creek. 5 volunteers from WNYTU plus 1 Upper Genesee Valley member along with Kyle Glenn and Scott Cornett participated.

The chapter contributed $1161 ($975 from the Conservation Beer raffles) towards the purchase of an attachment(grapple) for the Genesee Valley BOCES mini excavator. It is already being used and will be used for future stream projects including some rework on Crow Creek this summer.

Permits have been submitted for the Trout Brook conifer project happening this summer.

Kyle Glenn flew his drone over the upper Ischua from the Town of Franklinville downstream to the end of the stocked extended reach. He also flew the tributaries of Rock Spring, Johnson and Carpenter brooks. NYDEC in Albany is making the Ischua watershed a high priority for this summer's field work. DEC is in the process of generating a damage settlement amount to present to Great Lakes.
