Roadless Rule: Let's Get Engaged!!!
Legislation has been introduced to rescind the Roadless Rule. If passed, tens of millions of acres of roadless area would be open to road creation.
The roadless designation is a bit of a misnomer. There already are roads in these areas that allow for wildfire prevention and timber management.
However, rescinding the rule would allow for unrestricted road creation. This would negatively impact fish and wildlife in these areas as well as impact current recreational activities.
Some wording in the legislation calling for rescinding the rule suggests this is for wildfire prevention. Check out the link in this email to the TU report on the Roadless Rule. Among many insightful points, it dispels the myth that additional roads in these areas will reduce wildfires. (See pg 10 of the report). In addition, there are some compelling numbers on just how much trout water and wildlife habitat would be affected by rescinding the rule. TU has clearly done its homework here!

The link below takes you to TU’s action item on the Roadless Rule where you can ask your elected officials to vote down this legislation. TU makes it easy with a prepared message. But, please include some of your own words in the comment field so your “speak up” is counted individually. This would take just a few minutes to do! Seriously, I’ve timed it!
